Christmas Presents

December 22nd, 2006

Presents…to give or not to give. To get a joint gift for ourselves or to get a gift for each other. I think this questions gets thrown around a good deal every year leading up to Christmas between me and Yaeka. This year it ended up in us not getting a joint gift for ourselves and in us getting bad gifts (except for Cold Heat which is awesome!) for each other that will all be getting returned to the store.

Then, today I saw a post on Seattlest (awesome Seattle blog) about this Earthquake Detector. Yaeka is always kind of paranoid about Earthquakes and well, we could have used a radio/flashlight during the recent power outages so this would have been awesome. Even if the detection is totally pointless.

Also, in case your wondering, we did gifts early since I’m leaving tomorrow morning…but first I have to return the gifts I got Yaeka for some big spending money back in Tennessee.

Candy Sushi Everywhere

November 10th, 2006

Rice Krispie Sushi

A little over a year ago, our friend Amy had an awesome themed birthday party. It was called “Jap Attack” and the theme was obviously Japanese related. As part of the festivities, Yaeka, Amy, and Laura made some awesome rice krispie sushi. You can see some more of the tasty treats on Yaeka’s Flickr Photos Tagged with “Sushi”.
Anyway, the reason I have candy sushi on the brain over a year later – besides the fact that I always just have sushi on the brain – is that Boing Boing (one of the best blogs ever) had recent posts on both Candy Sushi and Chocolate Sushi and I don’t think I’ve shared these pictures before.

6 Seconds Away from $5,000

October 30th, 2006

As I mentioned in my last post, Blingo has been giving away some big prizes lately. In fact, today they gave away $5,000 and I was 6 seconds away from winning it. That’s right, if I had searched 6 seconds earlier, I’d have been $5,000 richer. I took this screen shot as soon as I left my state of shock.

Blingo Got a Face Lift

October 2nd, 2006

I’ve been meaning to post about Blingo for a while now especially following their being acquired by Publisher’s Clearing House. At around 8:40 am today Blingo got a major facelift and that’s what ultimately made me finally post. IN addition to the new design that features a lot more POP, they’re giving away some major major prizes including a Mustang and a big screen plasma TV.

If you’re skeptical, don’t be. I’ve one a ton of movie tickets as well as an Amazon.com gift card via Blingo and it’s not a scam. They even have a great referral program so that if you sign up for Blingo through my link, and you win, I also win! In fact half of my winnings came this way.

Whack-A-Mole-ish

September 28th, 2006

tontie

This game is sort of like whack-a-mole for 10-keyists. It starts off kind of slow, but it starts getting complicated fast when you get to level 7 or 8. I made it to level 9 with a little over 12,000 points.

Number 1 or Number 2

September 28th, 2006

photos you likebetter: you are what you like

This site is kind of like when you go to they eye doctor and they ask you to pick between number one or number two. You’re presented with two images and you simply click the one you like better. Instead of figuring out what the right prescription of glasses would be, however, the page tries to figure out things about you based on your selections. It lets you know when it’s collected enough data for a conjecture by illuminating the brain and making it pink.

I was initially really impressed because it correctly predicted that I was male and something else that I don’t remember. I just messed around with it some more though and it didn’t do a very good job. Although at least I know I project the photographic choices of an upper-middleclass citizen. I said that wasn’t correct, but that got me thinking…what class am I?

Update: Slightly more impressed. It now correctly guessed that I’d rather have a girlfriend than a boyfriend, I was in my 20s, and that I was not an only child.

Remember the Good Ol’ Days

September 23rd, 2006

When sitting around and making a flipbook was way better than reading Charlotte’s Web in 3rd grade? Actually this is really just a test of this plug-in I installed to be able to include YouTube videos on my blog.

This Almost Makes Me Wish I Had a Dog

September 16th, 2006

Firefox Dog

Yaeka just sent this link to me. It’s a dog that has been groomed to look like the Firefox Dog. It actually is really well done. If you aren’t using Firefox as your internet browser, you should seriously consider it. It’s the bomb.
