Christmas Presents

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Presents…to give or not to give. To get a joint gift for ourselves or to get a gift for each other. I think this questions gets thrown around a good deal every year leading up to Christmas between me and Yaeka. This year it ended up in us not getting a joint gift for ourselves and in us getting bad gifts (except for Cold Heat which is awesome!) for each other that will all be getting returned to the store.

Then, today I saw a post on Seattlest (awesome Seattle blog) about this Earthquake Detector. Yaeka is always kind of paranoid about Earthquakes and well, we could have used a radio/flashlight during the recent power outages so this would have been awesome. Even if the detection is totally pointless.

Also, in case your wondering, we did gifts early since I’m leaving tomorrow morning…but first I have to return the gifts I got Yaeka for some big spending money back in Tennessee.

Candy Sushi Everywhere

Rice Krispie Sushi

A little over a year ago, our friend Amy had an awesome themed birthday party. It was called “Jap Attack” and the theme was obviously Japanese related. As part of the festivities, Yaeka, Amy, and Laura made some awesome rice krispie sushi. You can see some more of the tasty treats on Yaeka’s Flickr Photos Tagged with “Sushi”.
Anyway, the reason I have candy sushi on the brain over a year later – besides the fact that I always just have sushi on the brain – is that Boing Boing (one of the best blogs ever) had recent posts on both Candy Sushi and Chocolate Sushi and I don’t think I’ve shared these pictures before.

playlist

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

Phill and I have chosen not to get cable in our new place. So instead of watching trashy TV I have been making playlists.

The first one was for phill to go with the book I purchased for his birthday, Thurston Moore Mix Tape : The Art of Cassette Culture . Of course I had to put this mix on a tape rather than a cd. I found a mix tape made my his ex-girlfriend and had the very satisfying experience of recording over it. Its was totally heinous…it should had destroyed long ago.
the list:

Artist - Song - Album
Cat Power- Sea of Love – The Covers Record
764-Hero – You were the long way home – Weekends of Sound
Radiohead – Morning bell – Kid A

Modest Mouse – All Night Diner – Building Something out of Nothing
Mates of State – Ride Again – My Solo Project
PJ Harvey –This is Love – Stories from the city, Stories from the Sea
Rondells – He’s got heart – Shined Nickle and Loose Change (actually 2001)

Pedro the Lion – Slow and Steady Wins the Race– Winner Never Quit
Arling & Cameron – W.E.E.K.E.N.D – Music for Imaginary Films

The next mix was for a co-worker who accused me of only listing to “punk”. I don’t listen to too much punk but I guess she meant that its louder than what she prefers…So I made her the “Quite mix”. The list:

multi-diensional shine

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

i hope lumiunous color glaze by John Frieda will fit my lifestyle. I would really like to reawaken my lackluster brunette hair.

Is it shinier?

Also tried the new 7-up. Tastes like 7-up

book making

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

My first attempt at making a book.
DIY notebook

I used this tutorial.
It’s really messy but I now that I know the process and what works and doesn’t work, I think I will be happy with my next attempt.

I think the tutorial was a good starting point but I am going to make some changes.

1. Befor making any folds I will cut my paper. Cutting the fold after the binding was complete (as done in the tutorial) left a unclean edge.
2. Once folded paper is bundled into sets of three, cut edges to be even. I tried to exacto cut the sides all at once and again a very messy edge.
3. Use the proper size book cover for the outside so it will cover the entire book. I messed up and cut the cover the wrong way and ended up having to put the cover on in sections.
4.Rubber cement! not white glue or glue stick! I didn’t have any puckering of the paper with the rubber cement. Where i tried glue stick was gross…same with white glue.
