Transparent Desktops

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

I stumbled across one of the coolest/dorkiest things ever. When I first looked at it I was amazed, some of these images do a really good job of making it look realistic. Check out this slideshow of transparent desktops.

Mass Blog Reading Leads to Oxnard

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

After diving head on into the world of RSS, I’ve managed to subscribed to many more blogs than I could imagine ever reading via the traditional web browsing method. When I say “many”, I’m talking over 25 different sites and that’s not including the ones I normally check up on that are by friends.

Anyway, recently I added waxy.org to my list after noticing it referenced quite frequently from Layer 8 which is another blog I have been keeping up with. Coincidentally, one of the recent postings on waxy.org has to do with Oxnard and Ventura College. According to a recent post (actually the second of two posts on the topic), the journalism programs at both college have been closed.

There’s a link in that post to an LA Times article as well as to a picture of students at Oxnard College during a silent protest. It’s been nearly five years since I’ve been back to “the nard”, but it seems to keep popping up in the most unexpected places.

New Year’s Party

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

Okay, finally a post with some substance! I have a few sets of pictures to go through and organize, but this first batch is from my really super exciting New Year’s evening of activity. Yaeka and I had tossed around several ideas of things to do, but we decided none of them would be quite as cool as hanging out at Amy’s place.

We started the evening off in style thanks to Sarah’s gift to Yaeka - a collector’s edition release of Showgirls complete with a put the suction cup pasties on the stripper. Here’s Amy proudly holding up the poster with pasties in their proper place.

And now here she is showing off her award winning technique.

Doug gets tricky and turns it sideways.

Despite her technique, Amy doesn’t do to well and our eyes are burned with the viewing of such inappropriate material. Why couldn’t she just cover the nipples!

Following the exciting Showgirls game, we all thought that a game of Trivial Pursuit would really liven things up a bit. Unfortunately we were wrong and nearly everyone passed out. Here are the casualties.

Doug and Ernie were still really excited though!

Then, finally, it was time to welcome 2005. With total disregard for those lame folk passed out on the floor, he launched into an all out pots and pans assault on the ears.

And popped the cork on the champagne.

Which then hit the ceiling.

And also came out rather slushy.

All the banging of pots and pans didn’t seem to bother any of the heavy sleepers so we proceeded to play a game I learned from Brian at I Keep a Diary called Drunk Guy Jenga. Amy and Graydon show off their skillz.

Of course you shouldn’t participate in this game unless you are certain you can outlast everyone else when it comes to staying up late at night. Soon after the last round of playing Amy passed out on the stairs and became a victim of Drunk Guy Jenga.

Afterwards Graydon, Yaeka, and I headed back to the Quah to dine on a delicious dinner at the local Denny’s.

Step 1. Purchase G5
Step 2. Purchase Final Cut Pro
Step 3. Make videos
Step 4. Submit for screenings and festivals
Step 5. Apply for grants

Went and saw a video installation at 911 media arts center this weekend. I miss making videos. I miss putting together installations.
I havn’t bought myself anything nice in a really long time. I deserve a G5.

Making Some Progress

Tuesday, March 8th, 2005

Okay, I’m finally making some progress again on the blog front. As you may see, I’ve installed new blog software and finally moved away from MovableType which I had been complaining about since last November. I’m still getting used to the interface and figuring out its templating system, but the default style theme looks so much better than what I had going on before that even as it is right now it’s such an improvement. I have quite a few pictures to post from Christmas, New Years, etc. so I’ll try to get back on it.

Dull Dull dull

Friday, March 4th, 2005

Why does everything have to seem so dull?
I can’t think of anything that doesn’t seem dull right now. What’s gonna spice up my life?
I did get a new bra last night. Didn’t really spice up my life but I do feel much more comfortable in it than in my other bra’s.
I tried coke with lime. Not diet coke with lime…regular coke with lime. It didn’t seem as sweet as regular coke. It was okay. I might prefer diet coke with lime.
Painting in the bedroom is almost done. Have to finish up some touch ups and finish painting the doors. That kinda spiced up my life. Although I would like to hurry up and just finish the project. It’s becoming a pain in my ass.
