peanut butter cupcakes
Monday, May 30th, 2005I’m not an enourmous peanut butter chocolate fan, the way Phill and Sarah are, but I thought I would try this recipe from the Moosewood dessert cookbook.
After whipping up the batter and getting the cupcakes in the oven I decieded to make gooey hot fudge sauce to be the “frosting”.
Phill was brilliant and reminded me we had just purchased strawberries at Trader joes and they would be perfect to trying the sauce.
Phill tries dried apple slices and chocolate sauce.
Paris & Paris
Monday, May 30th, 2005Remember that show back in the 80s called “Simon & Simon”? Well I do, I used to watch it every once and a while. I think one of them had a mustache.
Anyway, it’s the only thing I could think of where two people had the same name. So I was browsing my internet news and found out that Paris Hilton is engaged to Paris Latsis. How weird is that? Paris doesn’t seem like it would be that common of a name and definitely not a male name, but I guess I was just wrong.
Here’s to the next reality TV show covering the marriage of famous people we shouldn’t care about, “Paris & Paris”.
weekend
Monday, May 30th, 2005Saturday morning Phill and I left to meet Doug, Amy, and Doug’s pals, Lauren and Brice at Snow Lake. Living in Issaquah Phill and I are surprisingly close to the mountains and it only took 30 min to reach the Snoqualmie National forest. The trail head started in the Alpintal ski resort parking lot and asceneded 1,000 feet for 3 miles. It was a moderate hike up to the top but then we had to decend back down to reach the lake. Since it was 80-90 degrees out we didn’t think we would see snow, however to reach the lake we had to travel through quite a bit of snow. Phill, not being the outdoor enthusiast, was in tennies (really crappy tennies) and was sliding all over the place. I had on my hiking boots and tried to track a more trail with more traction for phill to follow on. We finally made it down and ran into doug and amy who hiked in the night before. I was really surprised we found them. The lake is pretty big and and there were a lot of people there. we hung out for a couple hours, dipped our feet in the snow melted lake (well phill didnt) and relaxed. It was bizarro to be surrounded by snow and it still be so hot. even by the lake i would say it was at least 80 degrees.
When phill blogs about our weekend it will be more interesting since his recount will be accompined by pictures. so look forward to that.
later that night, phill and i viisted the mall. For some reason we visit the mall now. we ended up at Bose and I bought phill an early birthday present. he really needed new speakers. His old ’70’s spearers are now a retro side table to my couch. (You all will also have to see phill’s blog for pictures of this)
Today we decieded to be like everybody else and saw star wars. I can’t remeber much from the other episodes. While watching I kept refering to spaceballs to try and remeber some of the plot. I was into spaceballs when i was little.
greatest deal ever
Monday, May 30th, 2005Phill and I have made a deal. For a $30 monthly rent reduction (I, as his landlord can do these things) Phill is going to do the dishes EVERYDAY. I never have to do dishes ever again! I’m going to start cooking more often. sweet!
i wanna be your thurston moore
Thursday, May 26th, 2005i realized today that i am not as familiar with the sleater kinney catalog as i once thought. I own every album and i would say things like “oh i havn’t really been into the last couple of albums” but today as i was ipod-ing through All hands on the bad one and One beat, I kept hearing songs i wasn’t that familiar with. I havn’t listend to the albums in a very long time usually blowing them off as not as good as previous albums but today I really was diggin it. Then I realized what had happened. during my college radio days phill, as music director, would rate the songs A or B. I only played the A songs and as i never owned the albums until a few years later I never spent any real time listing to the album in its entirety and phill just has really bad taste when it comes to sleater kinney. He listed all the crappy songs as “A” songs. So i have decieded to give the last two albums another chance and maybe I will love them as much as Hot Rock, CAll the doctor, and Dig me out. It’s all phills fault.
Also, eventhough phill and i missed the listing laser show party for The woods I really hope I’ll fall in love with this new album. It’s been a long time since I have.
annoying diary

changing jobs
Monday, May 23rd, 2005I was here for only 5 months but I am moving on to my next job. I’m excited that I will be focusing more of my time on alumni relations rather than the fundraising aspect of development. It will give me a chance to spend more time with people rather than numbers and also will be a time to reconnect with my high school friends. I havn’t really figured out how I feel about that actually. Well, I am excited to be back with my favorite teachers and excited to finally be doing development work for an organization I care about but I think I am going to feel awkward having to reconnect with people I didn’t necessarily have good relations with…or dealing with the awkwardness of ex’s. Well its awkward for me…not necessarily with them. I mean its been 8 years and most people have forgotten all that stupid highschool junk but I think i have a problem hanging on to crap that other people easily get over. Maybe i should see a shrink or go through some kind of 12 step program were you deal with past issues and bring them to closure. 12 steps seems like a lot . I step would be easier, I’ll just get over it. In reality the hardest part will be reconnecting with high school people and realizing they are doing much cooler things than me or making a lot more money than me.
The Start of a Bad Week
Sunday, May 22nd, 2005A couple of weeks ago I, along with just about everyone else I work with had what seemed to be a ridiculously bad week. Considering that the pictures below represent what I got to see and deal with within the first hour of work I should have known that things just weren’t going to go that well.
When people ask me where I work or what I do, I’m not sure they fully understand what I’m talking about when I say the company I work for does sales and warehousing for a manufacturer of irrigation/water meter boxes. I wouldn’t either if I didn’t have to deal with them every day. It still baffles my mind that pallets of these things ship out all the time. Where are they putting these things? Everywhere I go already seems to have a good supply already in the ground. Actually, I never even looked at them until I started working here and that was because it seemed like a fun game to see if the box in the ground came from the manufacturer we rep. Anyway, we rep for some other types of products as well, but this line just happens to be the one with the crappily loaded trucks.
Once again, you can click on the image for the full-sized one via Flickr.
Here’s a shot of the full scene viewed from the loading dock. If you look closely at the utility pole on the left border of the image, you’ll notice that the gray tube running next to it has a slight bend. Some drivers find it difficult to navigate into our loading dock and that bend is the result of one of those drivers.

Now a closer view from a side angle. One of the only things I was thankful for is that it wasn’t raining. Could you imagine having to help clean all this stuff up in the rain? Let me tell you, it sucks.

Here’s a shot that also shows another pallet that is ready to happily fall as soon as we pull out the gray vault box. I think we were actually able to save that one though so not all was lost.

Now this one is actually from a different day. I think some of the blame on this one could go to the driver. The pallets were probably already sideways due to a bent load bar, but his backing in wasn’t so smooth and the rough braking caused a few to slide out all over the loading dock. You can see some boxes stuck between the truck and dock in this image.

Friday, May 20th, 2005Today when I came into work I had every intention of doing work. It is 2 hours before quitting time and I still haven’t accomplished anything. I read the news and even filled out a personality test on one of those dating services. Today it was matchdotcome, last week it was eharmony. At the end of the survery it showed me my matches. A couple days ago I received an email saying that Spencer of Redmond would like to meet me. Spencer is Chinese and I think he makes a lot of money. He has an interest in computers and enjoys the outdoors. I don’t think Phill found my eharmony-ing, matchdotcom-ing very amusing. I’m not looking to date anyone other than Phill, however I was curious what kind of results I would get. Apparently I am a type X, which I have already forgotten the meaning of.
I like to end sentences with prepositions. I don’t understand why that is such a no-no. I never properly learned English grammar, which I am sure is very apparent. I am also a crappy writer. Once I wrote a poem for my friend about how words hate me. They really do and it was a really bad poem. I believe she drew me a really ugly picture. I’ll stick to the art and she should stick to the words. Once in a fit of frustration she hit me on the head because she had to edit one of my college papers. My last boss told my co-worker I couldn’t write worth beans. I don’t know how I never learned to write. I went to prep school, went to college and I still managed to never figure it out.
